We booked this vacation one week before so much unexpected change came into our life.
The “I don’t know if we’re going to go on this trip” lingered in the back of my mind up until we were on our way to the airport. C got her first ear infection (and it was in both ears), the week before we left and she was still adjusting to daycare. Then I got sick and ended up with an ear infection so I was on amoxicilin along with her starting a couple days before we left.
Once we landed in Houston and I received a text from my dad saying that daycare drop off went well, I was able to relax and shift gears to being on vacation with my husband. The main point of this vacation was to disconnect and just relax. We were going to be there for 4 full days and our plan was to do excursions 1-2 days, but we would make our final decision once we arrived depending on how we were feeling. This made the vacation so much more relaxing. I definitely like exploring new places and making the most of vacations, but knowing we were coming back to a very active 18-month old my perspective was shifted. We weren’t going to get a “vacation from our vacation” once we got home ;)
Along with relaxing and napping pool side, we ate, walked along the beach, took an all-day excursion to Chichen Itza and a cenote, ate, took the ferry to Cozumel to go snorkeling for a few hours one day, ate, walked around 5th St (TONS of bars, shops and restaurants), watched Monday Night Football in a bar and overall just enjoyed our time together not having to chase a toddler around.
{Our hotel. The pool and beach are straight ahead in the distance.}
{Matt and one of the pools.}
{Walking from the pool to the beach.}
{You know I love a resort that has free Bingo daily.}
{On our way to the cenote to go swimming in the chilly, chilly water.}
{Matt swimming in the cenote. Can you spot him?}
{Looking up from the bottom. It was a bit unsettling thinking that you were swimming in an underground hole.}
{On our tour at Chichen Itza.}
{Obligatory photo in front of the Mayan Ruin.}
{Chichen Itza isn’t that big if it can fit between my arms.}
{We’re famous! We made it onto a bottle of Mexican liquor.}
{Us amongst the beautiful seaweed filled water.}
{Cheers’ing with our beers while sitting on SWING bar chairs!}
{Stare-down with this creature.}
Aside from getting sick again the last day of our trip and it getting worse while we were traveling home (fever/chill/aches…. we took an Uber straight from the airport to the pharmacy to pick up a RX), this was a successful trip. It was good for everyone- for us to get away and for Charlotte to get some one-on-one time with her grandparents!
Now, where to next?
