Around our place

I was so happy to move for many reasons, but one of the reasons was because I could redecorate with a completely clean slate.

Since moving almost 4 months ago, I feel like I am constantly tweaking our apartment and adding little touches here and there. I always have the intention of taking pictures and blogging about the how-to’s and yet…. here we are. Just the finished photos. This is partly due to the fact that I make things up as I go so I don’t know how things will turn out AND because a lot of these projects are done at night when ‘picture taking’ lighting is poor. I have faith that one day I’ll get back to tutorial photos again.

Below are some of the things I’ve been working on. I apologize ahead of time for the poor picture quality as I didn’t choose the best time of day to take these pictures (and some of these spots don’t get the best natural light).

gallery{Our living room gallery wall. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen this picture and you know the story. I wasn’t going to do a gallery wall in our new place because the high ceilings were throwing me for a loop. How high do I make the wall? How wide? Well, then I saw Moby Dick at HomeGoods and knew that I had to do a gallery wall. I started gathing materials (most things I had on hand), printing photos at Costco, painting signs, and putting little things together here and there and voila! I’m happy with the way it turned out.}

macrame{Macrame garland in 3rd bedroom. I originally made this garland to go above the couch in the living room, but then it looked lost once I hung it. Luckily the colors in our house are all pretty much the same as you go from room to room (except the master has no turquoise, darn it). I think it’s the perfect addition to this small 3rd bedroom.}

shelf{The shelving system in our dining room area. We got this shelving system from The Container Store. I love that we can still have pretty things out, but that they’re out of a certain one year old reach.}

wreath{I love the idea of having a wreath on our front door at all times (as I did at our old place) and just changing it out with the seasons. However, at our new place I’m afraid of someone stealing it, so it’s hung on the inside of our front door :)

Charlotte-gallery{Charlotte’s room is huge. Like “what do we do with all this space” huge. We got her a little VW van that she likes to pretend to drive, but there was a lot of empty wall space. I decided to do a little gallery wall incorporating a sign we used at her birthday party and a garland of all the fabrics used in her nursery.*}

jewelry{This is a really bad picture and I apologize… hard to get a good shot in a dark closet. I wanted to keep my jewelry out of sight in our new room, so I came up with this organizational system…. pegboard (spray painted gold + wood slats/trays. (You can also see our master bedroom, here.)}

I’m still on the hunt for a coffee table… something with a soft, ottoman-style top, as well as some kind of bookshelf/end table for the opposite end of the longer couch. I have some ideas for both, I just need to find the right pieces.

*I realize that there are cords hanging down the side of the shelf and that looks like the opposite of baby-proofing. I get it.
